We Invite You to Support Student Success
Due to the impact that COVID-19 has had on our community, and the world, John Jay College of Criminal Justice has decided to convert our gala on Thursday, February 4, 2021 to a Virtual Benefit. Now more than ever there is a need to honor those whose advocacy and leadership make our communities, country, and world a better place. The funds raised by the Benefit are critical to achieve our goals: to support our students' success and develop the strongest generation of future leaders possible.
Our Students
With a student body that is 46 percent Hispanic, 21 percent white, 20 percent Black, and 13 percent Asian, John Jay College is recognized as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI). Some 47 percent of our students are the first in their families to attend college and a third are born outside of the U.S. More than 400 are military veterans. Our John Jay graduates are uniquely equipped to serve as agents of change and as diverse justice leaders in an increasingly diverse America.
You Can Impact the Lives of Our Students by Making a Gift
Your generous support is what makes it possible for our students to thrive and overcome the significant challenge of earning a degree during this unprecedented time. Even with our students and their families adversely impacted by COVID-19, despite the fact that more that a half are from very low-income households earning less that $30,000 per year, our students are graduating in record numbers. With your help, our four-year and six year graduation rates remain at an all-time high. This past year, our intervention programs increased graduation rates by an unprecedented 3%. In fact, John Jay's four-year graduation rate is the second highest in CUNY. At our Benefit, we will highlight these programs, including our successful Pre-Law Institute and our new program that links experience, academics and practice (LEAP).
Our College
John Jay College, the preeminent leader in educating for justice, is proud of its longstanding record as a transformational force for historically underrepresented students. We rank in the Top 10 among American universities in student social mobility according to a Harvard-based think tank. Our faculty personify academic excellence, from Pulitzer Prize-winning historians to recognized experts in fields such as, criminal justice reform, law enforcement, forensic science, cybercrime, and public administration. Through their research, they advance knowledge and inform professional, practice that build and sustain just societies.
